Majlis Al Jinn Cave

Majlis al Jinn, meaning is one of Oman’s most breathtaking natural wonders and among the largest cave chambers in the world. Hidden high on the Selma Plateau, about 100 km southeast of Muscat, this colossal underground hall lies 1,380 meters above sea level.

The cave is a single chamber stretching roughly 310 by 225 meters with a soaring ceiling up to 120 meters high—big enough to fit an entire city block inside. Despite the blazing desert heat above, the chamber stays refreshingly cool at around 17–18 °C all year, making it a fascinating escape into a hidden world beneath the mountains.

Getting into Majlis al Jinn is an adventure in itself. The only way down is by abseiling through one of three vertical entrances in the cave’s ceiling, ranging from 118 to 158 meters deep. As you descend, beams of sunlight pour through the openings, illuminating rock formations, seasonal pools, and the dramatic expanse below. The cave floor is dotted with unique mineral formations and tells stories of wildlife that once wandered too close to the entrances.

Once considered the second largest cave chamber on Earth, Majlis al Jinn remains a bucket-list destination for thrill-seekers, explorers, and nature lovers who want to experience one of Oman’s greatest hidden treasures.
